The Angel Hotel, Abergavenny is a former coaching inn situated in the heart of this historic Welsh border town, and combines old world charm with modern comfort.

There are 35 luxury guest rooms, and also accommodaton in The Mews, adjacent to the hotel, and The Lodge within the grounds of Abergavenny Castle, as well as the restored 17th Century Castle Cottage. All rooms are en-suite, and provide flat–screen TV, telephone, tea/coffee making facilities, hair dryer and luxury toiletries

Excellent Renovation

The public spaces are excellent, the building is sympathetically restored with some nice touches in the communal areas There is an attractive bar with log fire, cosy rest area, and very pleasant staff. Breakfast was lovely with a good choice and arrived promptly Staff very courteous and professional. The staff are very polite in making sure you have everything you want.

Great Location

Despite it being a very busy weekend nothing was to much trouble for the staff. For smokers there is a very comfortable sitting area. The restaurant continues to cook high quality food. One guest commented that he could not recall having had a better meal in Wales. Bar prices are reasonable and the town centre location is great.

Comfortable Room

The room was good, and had a REAL shower with a rain shower head: 'not the awful British showers you usually experience '. On site parking is convenient. Everything was very clean and the bed was comfortable. A choice of soft and firm pillows is an excellent idea.

Negative Reviews

Creaking

The rooms are still very old and creaky, particularly the bathrooms. The bed was found to be too soft by some and the Wi-Fi was rather variable. The bathroom needed updating. The reception was found to be in need of organisation. One small bathroom with the burning hot radiator, which could have been quite dangerous, nearly left its mark!

Not Quite Four Star

One criticism of breakfast was that the food was of a 3 star chain hotel standard Cereals in boxes and packets; rather unappetising looking croissants, scrambled eggs watery, the sausage was poor quality and the mushrooms bland and overcooked.

Almost There

The Angel, particularly its staff, comes in for a great deal of praise, undoubtedly once the renovations have been completed it will be an excellent place to stay.
