Positive Reviews

Perfect location close to the Bund

This was perhaps what guests most liked about the hotel. They mentioned that the hotel was very central, so making it relatively easy to get around to points of interest and business locations. Often mentioned was the Bund, which was said to be just a short walk away.

Terrific views from the upper storeys

It seems that it was the guests with rooms higher up in the building that were happiest of all those staying at the hotel. They reported that the views were truly exceptional and really gave one an idea of the size, scale and impressiveness of China's commercial capital.

The Hu Bar

A number of guests mentioned that the hotel's rooftop bar, The Hu Bar, was especially stylish, and of course offered drop dead gorgeous views out over the city.

Negative Reviews

In-house dining expensive and poor value

The majority of guests were not entirely happy with their dining experiences at the hotel. Guest after guest mentioned that the prices charged were completely out of sync with any good independent restaurant in Shanghai. They also felt that the food and service was somewhat lacking, leading them to conclude they had received very poor value for money.

Lack of English speaking abilities

Many English speaking guests, and those using it as their second language, reported that the hotel's staff did not have very good English skills, making it difficult for guests to understand and be understood.

Complicated lifts

A simply remarkable number of guests reported that the lift system seemed very complicated, requiring two separate lifts to access the rooms. The reason for this design did not seem readily apparent.
