Positive Reviews

Tasty breakfasts and friendly hosts

Plenty of reviewers said they experienced a warm welcome from friendly, professional and obliging hosts at family-run Prince Charlie's Cottage. Many said they felt at home thanks to the easy-going atmosphere. The cooked-to-order breakfasts were reportedly plentiful and delicious.

Village location with excellent transport links

This property's location in the Scotland-England border village of Gretna Green, famed for runaway weddings, appealed to guests. It was conveniently close to wedding services and venues in Gretna Green and neighbouring Gretna. Furthermore, dining options, shopping centres and amenities were all within moderate walking distance and Gretna Green railway station was just steps away. Motorists liked the proximity of petrol stations and welcomed the free parking. The proximity of the A74(M), M6 and A75 made it quick and easy to drive to Carlisle and Dumfries plus beauty spots, regional attractions and historic sites.

Cosy and clean rooms

The rooms were often described as homely, clean, comfortable and well-equipped. Those with limited mobility liked the way the rooms were all on the ground floor, meaning there were no steps to tackle. The usually affordable room rates appealed to budget-conscious guests, who often said they got fair value for money.

Negative Reviews

Claims some rooms were small

Critics remarked that some of the rooms at this cottage property were pretty small, especially when accommodating the maximum number of people.

Free Wi-Fi divided opinion

Guests welcomed the availability of free Wi-Fi access. However, several disappointed users claimed they were faced with an unreliable or spotty signal from time to time in some areas of the property.

Occasional reports of nuisance noise

Although many reviewers said they had a pleasant and restful stay, light sleepers said they were occasionally disturbed by traffic noise, which was audible in certain rooms facing the road.
