Hotel Kamberg Mountain Shadows Kamberg
Kamberg Mountain Shadows is nestled in the Kamberg Valley along Highmoor Road, bordering on the Little Mooi River, a mere few kilometres short of the Highmoor Nature Reserve. Kamberg Mountain Shadows sits in the Kamberg Valley along the Highmoor road, on the banks of the Little Mooi River, just a few kilometres short of the Highmoor Reserve. Previously known as Mountain Shadows, the property was purchased in early 2017 and the new owners decided it needed more than a splash of paint and tidy up. After nearly a year of new building works with additional accommodation and a new restaurant for our local customers (including those guests not wanting to prepare all their own meals). The cottages all have fireplaces to keep you warm in the cool evenings and all are self-catering, fitted out with the necessary equipment to prepare and serve your own food. Beds and linen are all fresh and new which together with the redecoration has made these cottages quite special. Verandas are tastefully laid out with privacy and comfort in mind. A barbeque is provided for your use and wood or charcoal is available through reception. Fat Harrys pub is adjacent the restaurant and has DSTV with sport, movie and music channels to pass the time away. Slip in for an afternoon of a cold beer and take in the ambience and stunning views of Cleopatra and Mount Lebanon. So now we are back up and running after being closed for nearly 12 months what is next. Our new Shadows Lodge is now open providing a further 5 twin rooms on a bed and breakfast basis only.This cluster of independent rooms fronting onto a beautiful covered wooden deck the rooms each have 2 single beds. The room has all the usual conveniences to make your stay comfortable including tea/coffee making facilities, en suite bathroom, cupboards and seating area. This area is designed for groups and families looking to have a place to put their heads down after a day of exploring, cycling or fishing our awesome Kamberg area. As we are located in the Central Drakensberg area there is good access to a large number of activities all within easy access of Mountain Shadows or by car. These include: NATURE AND HIKING - From our guest house you can hike the area up Mount Lebanon and around the valley. If you are a bird lover, frequent sightings of crested eagles and other raptors, cape vultures, a variety of cranes and multiple species of smaller birds. Breathe in the tranquillity and beauty of our valley. As we have the Little Mooi River in our front garden we have developed a special shaded picnic spot on the banks of the river. By arrangement we can put together a picnic for 1 to 10 people prepared and ready for you to just arrive and absorb the surroundings. In summer you can swim in the waterhole to cool off and taste our fresh mountain water. Highmoor Reserve - Just 7 kilometres away to the gate. A perfect spot to hike, view wild life and do some trout fishing (own equipment and booking required). For the very brave you might choose to extend your stay to camp overnight in a cave. A very nice stop off on the way up for a dip in the source of the little Mooi River. Kamberg Rock Art Centre - A 25 minute drive away to visit some of the best and oldest historic drawings of the San people in South Africa. CYCLING - For those looking for a little exercise this is a great area with many trails. You can just move around the valley or if you are more ambitious there are some tough trails for the more experienced cyclists. The area hosts an annual Kamberg Classic MTB for serious hardcore athletes. Bring your bike and do your thing. FLY FISHING - Our area has a number of dams that can be fished where a small fee is normally paid to the owner of the property and Highmoor Reserve has fishing in its well-stocked dams. There is an annual heavily supported competition which pulls in teams of competitors from all around the country, the KAMBERG TROUT FESTIVAL. Both river and dam fishing is available. HORSE RIDING - Just 5 minutes away is a profession horse trail operator "Berg Trails" who cater for all levels of riders. Visit the beautiful mountain from your elevated saddle and just absorb the ambiance. GAME VIEWING - Aside from our local reserves which have a wide variety of antelope, game and birds there is a private reserve 36 kilometres from our gate. Private tours can be arranged on request. Also we are 2 hours away from Nambiti Hills Game Reserve. This private reserve has all manner of species of game and is the only reserve in the area that has the big 5, lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. GOLF - A short 9 hole course is available for a fee just 5 minutes from our guest house. A super course is available at Bosch Hoek Golf Club just an hour away. SPA - For the ladies there are a number of Spa's in the area. Art, Craft and Shopping - The Midlands Meander covers an extensive area offering a range of small specialist shops and restaurants. There are various routes and maps are available detailing the various offerings. Other Activities - You can watch a species called "Bar Flies" seen generally loafing around, drinking iced cold coolers, watching a little sport on TV and basically chilling out doing nothing but enjoying themselves at our pub and restaurant FAT HARRY'S. more
