About De Nubra Camp

De Nubra Camp is in Nubra valley, situated in the Karakoram mountain range. The valley comprises three arms that are drained by the Nubra and Shyok rivers. These rivers are fed by a massive congregation of glaciers. In fact, Nubra’s Siachen glacier is said to be largest glacier outside the polar region.

The landscape, biodiversity, and culture of Nubra are distinct from other parts of Ladakh. Nubra is located on the historical route that connected Central Asia with Ladakh and Baltistan with Tibet. The constant movement of mercantile goods and ideas through the valley over several centuries has made Nubra a unique place. In Nubra, you can still observe and ride the Bactarian camel (double-humped camel), which originates in Central Asia and was used extensively in the Silk Route trade. Different parts of the valley are also famous for the presence of ibex, snow leopards, wild seabuckthorn (Hippophae sp) and an interesting mix of species from the Tibetan plateau, Alpine mountain regions and Central Asia.
