Positive Reviews

Delicious breakfast and friendly hosts

The tasty cooked breakfast was plentiful and freshly-prepared, according to many reviewers. There was also praise for the warm welcome many experienced at this family-run accommodation. Guests said they often dealt with friendly and welcoming personnel.

Basic but affordable, clean and comfy rooms

For many guests, these guest houses offered good value for money due to their affordable rates. The rooms were generally said to be basic but more than sufficiently comfortable, spacious and clean for a budget stay. There were reportedly lovely North Sea views in selected rooms and a generally reliable free Wi-Fi network to boot.

Handy seafront location near city centre

This property's location in the northern part of Sunderland proved popular with many reviewers who said it was pretty easy to find and benefitted from free parking. Motorists enjoyed hassle-free access to the city centre, university and dining options. Being on the seafront, there was also easy pedestrian access to the beach and pier. Another bonus was that the area was relatively peaceful.

Negative Reviews

Smells and noises an occasional nuisance

Unpleasant odours like cooking smells or damp smells prove to be a nuisance for some critics in certain parts of the property. There were also occasional grumbles from light sleepers who claimed their sleep was sometimes disturbed by the doors slamming or noise from adjacent rooms.

Bathrooms could do with sprucing up

Critics sometimes took issue with the condition of the bathrooms. It was claimed some of the shared bathrooms felt a little dated or were in need of minor repairs. There were also reports that some of the bathrooms could have been more vigorously cleaned.

Minor maintenance grumbles

Aging mattresses, tired-looking furniture and peeling paint were among the largely cosmetic maintenance issues encountered by some critics in certain rooms.
