This museum displays the Bayeux tapestry, a 70 metres long embroidery made in the 11th Century of wool on canvas. It is believed the Tapestry was commissioned by Bishop Odo, William the Conqueror’s half-brother, and it tells the story of William’s conquest of England, ending at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The tapestry is displayed in a sealed glass case, in a dark room to protect the colours from fading. Visitors are given an earphone and move along the tapestry listening to a commentary (11 languages available). The museum contains other displays which explain more about the historical context, in French and English. The full visit takes between 1 and 2 hours. The museum has disabled access and a shop. Entrance cost €7.60 or €3 for school children and students. Opening hours : March, 15th - November, 1st : 9am -18.30pm (until 7pm from May to August) November, 2nd - March, 14th: 9.30am - 12.30pm and 2pm -6pm
