The Manitoba Museum in Winnipeg was formerly known as the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature. It specialises in human and natural heritage and is the largest museum and heritage centre in the city. The collections held at the museum reflect the natural heritage of the region and include an exhibit that recreates the marine life of the Hudson Bay area as it was 450 million years ago. There is also a Science Gallery Hall which opened in 2008 and a planetarium. The various exhibitions are grouped under the headings of “Earth History”, “Boreal Forest”, “Grasslands” etc and there is also the “Urban Gallery”. The latter is a re-creation of a typical Winnipeg street during the 1920’s. Another gallery entitled “Nonsuch” includes a replica of the ship of that same name that led to the founding of the Hudson Bay Company in 1668. Admission prices and opening hours are available on the website.
