Mesa Verde National Park (Mesa Verde National Park, USA)

Mesa Verde used to be the home to ancestral Puebloan people from 600AD -1300AD. The park is home to more than 4000 archaeological sites and visitors also have the possibillity to view the 600 cliff dwellings. Buildings to be seen include the Cliff Palace, Balcony House and Long House. Tickets to see the cliff houses can be obtained from the Far View Visitor Centre, which is located ca 15 miles from the entrance to the park. The visitor centre also offers an exhibition which displays historic native American jewelry, pottery and baskets, as well as a gift shop. A cafe, restaurant and lodge are next to the centre. The park also features the Chapin Mesa Archaeological Museum, which focuses on ancestral Pueblan life and prehistoric artifacts. The museum also contains a bookshop, snack bar, gift shop and washrooms. There are several hiking trails in the park which can be accessed free of charge.
