Der neue Bahnhof, der 1999 eröffnet wurde, liegt tief unter der Erde - der Bahnsteig ersteckt sich über des gesamte Fürstentum. Er soll an die 3 km an Tunnelröhren aufweisen. Über 100.000 Kubikmeter Fels mussten dem neuen Bahnhof von Monaco weichen. Der alte Bahnhof von 1867 wurde abgerissen und an seiner Stelle Wohnhäuser errichtet. Das Bahnhofsgebäude ist stockwertig aufgebaut. Die erste Etappe der Verlegung in den Untergrund erfolgte bereits 1964. Auch TGVs halten am zweigleisigen Bahnhof von Monte Carlo, der einer der modernsten der Welt ist. Ein Filtesystem saugt Rauch und Abgase von den Bahnsteigen, während ein Hochdrucksystem die Luft der Bahnhofshalle rauchfrei hält. Das Video-Überwachungssystem ist 24 Stunden pro Tag im Einsatz. Monacos Feuerwehr ist mit einer Sonderausrüstung bestückt, die ihr erlaubt, auf Schienen zu fahren. Es gibt vier Ausgänge, zahlreiche Rolltreppen und -bänder und in die Felswände eingesetzte Glasfenster, die ab und zu sogar einen Blick auf das Mittelmeer erlauben. Man hat beim tiefsten Ausgang auch gleich Zugang zu einigen der wenigen Buslinien der Stadt, nämlich zu den Linien 1,2,5 und 6.
