Since the mid-1800s, Paddington Station has been the arrival and departure point for numerous travellers. From here, and via a number of London Underground lines, they can then travel to hotels and business offices across a web of London destinations. There is also good access to and from London’s international airports and, uniquely, at Paddington, you’ll even find a bronze statue commemorating one very special traveller who arrived here, all the way from Peru. A photograph of you with the lovely Paddington Bear statue will serve to bring a smile to the face and, of course, many happy childhood memories.
Paddington is the capital’s most fondly regarded railway station and hosts travellers from the north and west of the UK, as well as international arrivals from the Heathrow and Gatwick airports’ associated hotels. The non-stop rail service to Heathrow’s terminals takes around 15 minutes, whilst it is a similar length of time via the Underground to Victoria Station and then there’s a direct Gatwick Express service to the airport’s South Terminal. In addition to Paddington’s mainline services, there are Underground links to other districts of London via the City, Bakerloo, District, and Circle lines. Impressive retail outlets at Paddington Station include those for a whole range of fast food options; plus books and newspapers to read on your journey. Disabled and standard toilet facilities apply and there are showers for you to freshen up before or after your trip.
Paddington’s hotels are not just extremely convenient for incoming and outgoing rail travel, but some of the capital’s iconic attractions are also within surprisingly easy walking distance. You can amble along, for instance, to Hyde Park where features include the Diana Memorial Playground which is hugely popular with kids. Then, try to catch a glimpse of one of the royal residents of Kensington Palace before taking in a concert at the Royal Albert Hall, or maybe you feel the need for essential shopping therapy at nearby Harrods. In the other direction, it’s elementary that you’ll want to visit the Sherlock Holmes Museum. If heading off in the evening to see a West End Show, the walk from the hotel is likely to take about 30 minutes. Alternatively, taxis are plentiful and the Line 7 bus is a further option. Paddington Station hotels really are excellent points from which to explore London.
A great bonus, if travelling to and from London’s Paddington Station, is the number and range of accommodation possibilities. Many hotels, such as the Ashley and the Falcon, have low-budget tariffs and even offer free breakfast too. The fact that they are just a short stroll from the station also saves on taxi costs. At the higher end of the scale, the Hilton Hotel is directly on the station site, so you can’t get much closer than that. When booking accommodation in advance, you’ll find that trivago is the perfect platform from which to select hotels, B&Bs, and serviced apartments, not just in this Paddington Station district, but wherever you want to stay, throughout central or outer London.
