Pitmedden House dates back to the 17th century and was once owned by the Seton family. The house is surrounded by 5 acres of walled garden which were originally laid out by Sir Alexander Seton, the first baronet of Pitmedden. While the house is not accessible to the public, the gardens can be visited. They boast 6 parterres, each of which forms its own pattern, created by more than 5 miles of box hedges and filled with around 40.000 plants per parterre. Further to be seen are a variety of over 80 species of apple tree which decorate the walls along the garden with their blossom in spring. Visitors are also welcome to follow the 1 1/2 miles of woodland walk around the estates, where picnic areas and a pond can be found. Also on the site are a Museum of Farming Life and a tea room, shop and visitor information centre. Opening hours: 1 May to 30 September, daily 10.00 - 5.30 (garden, Museum of Farming Life, shop and tearoom) The grounds are open all year round. Admission fee: Adults: £5 Family: £14 Single Parent: £10 Concession: £4 Please note that Pitmedden Garden is administered by the National Trust for Scotland. Members have free access to the property.
