Ploshtad Nezavisimost (Varna, Bulgaria)

Ploshtad Nezavisimost or Independence Square is located in Varna at the intersection between the streets of Preslav and Fredrih Chopin where the building of the Law Courts is situated. The square has undergone many reconstructions over the years growing along with the development of the sea capital. It bears the name “Independence” since 22.11.1908 in honour of the independence of Bulgaria as it is the exact place where the Independences was declared. In the centre of the square are the big fountains of Varna, which are illuminated in the evenings. In winter on the square there are many bright Christmas decorations and attractions and also lighted trees. Varna Opera is also located on Independence Square. Visitors can also find various shops and restaurants and the City Mark hotel. The square is home for annual Christmas and New Year’s concerts.
