El Poble Espanyol in the Montjuic area of Barcelona is an open air museum of Spanish architecture. It offers visitors the opportunity to see buildings typical of different parts of Spain all in one place and includes reproductions of the Plaza Mayor of Madrid, an Andalucian Barrio, Galician and Catalan zones and even a monastery. It was built in 1929 for the Barcelona International Exhibition as an example of an idealised Spanish village. The village was only intended to last for the duration of the exhibition but has now been open for eighty years. The village includes eating places, craft workshops, souvenir shops and even nightclubs. A series of summer concerts are also held in the village Tickets are €8.50 for adults (over 12 years old), €5.50 for children (4 to 12 years) and free for under fours. Family tickets and concessionary tickets are also available. Opening hours are from 9.00 until late, closing at 8pm on Mondays and after midnight the rest of the week when the restaurants and night clubs are open.
