Pusat Pemuliharaan Orang Utan Sepilok (Sandakan, Malaysia)

Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre is located about 25 kilometers west of Sandakan, in eastern Malaysia on the island of Borneo in the state of Sabah. It was started in 1964 for the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned baby orang-utans from logging sites, plantations, and illegal hunting. The orphaned orang-utans are trained to survive again in the wild and are released as soon as ready. The sanctuary now covers 43 square kilometers, much of which is virgin jungle. It has become one of Sabah’s top tourist attractions and includes a cafeteria and trails with signage.
