Troyan Monastery The Assumption (Troyan, Bulgaria)

Троянски ставропигиален манастир Успение Богородично“ е манастир в България, основан не по-късно от края на 16 век. Манастирът, който е трети по големина в България, е разположен живописно на брега на река Черни Осъм до село Орешак, на 10 км от Троян. Основан е около 1600 г. (игумен Калистрат), възможно и преди това. Преданието говори за двама монаси от Атон и трети монах, също от Св. Гора, който донася светинята на манастира, чудотворната икона на Богородица Троеручица, копие на старата чудотворна икона в Хилендарския манастир (14 век). Съборната църква е построена на мястото на по-стар храм от известния възрожденски строител Константин от гр. Пещера. Тя е осветена на 6 август 1835 от Великотърновския митрополит Иларион в името на “Успение Пресветая Богородици”. През 18471848 г. тя е покрита със стенописи от прочутия възрожденски майстор - Захарий Зограф от Самоков, който оставя на северната стена в църквата ктиторски портрети и своя автопортрет.
