Bangalore Palace (Bengaluru, India)
The architect of the Bangalore Palace took inspiration from Windsor Castle to create a palace that mixes Tudor style with Gothic windows and lots of turrets. The construction was commissioned by the Wodeyar king of Bangalore. Building work started in 1862 and was completed in 1944. The palace opened to the public in 2005 as a way to raise money for the upkeep of the building. The palace grounds cover 400 acres and have been used for large international outdoor concerts by touring bands which have included the Rolling Stones. The palace is not open all year so it’s important to take local advice before planning a visit. Entry on Sundays and Bank Holidays is from 10 am to 6 pm and visitors must take an accompanied tour. Entry for local Indian citizens is 100 rupees whilst foreign tourists pay 200 rupees. A particularly high camera fee of 500 rupees applies and no photography inside or outside is allowed without paying this fee. Note €1 is approximately 60 Rp. Ample parking is available free of charge.
