Prague Castle or Prazský Hrad is one of the largest castles in the world. The offices of Czech kings, Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have all been situated here at one time or another. Today the crown jewels of the Bohemian Kingdom are kept here. The castle is 570 metres in length and 130 metres wide. Admission to the Prague Castle Gardens is free. A sightseeing tour for visitors to the castle includes Old Royal Palace, an exhibition of The Story of Prague Castle, St. George’s Basilica, the Convent of St.George - National Gallery, Golden Lane with Daliborka tower and Prague Castle Picture Gallery where a ticket is required for entry. The state rooms within the castle are open only 2 days a year as all the other rooms are still used as offices. Some of the rooms of the castle are used as exhibition and concert halls. Additional tickets have to be purchased to attend these venues. As the castle is in the downtown area and in the city centre it is very easily accessible with all modes of transport.
