Bombolulu Workshops & Cultural Centre (Mombasa, Kenya)

Bombolulu was established in 1969. It provides employment, sheltered housing, medical aid and adult education, for 150 adults who are blind or physically disabled and who would otherwise have virtually no chance of employment in the mainstream labour market. These artisans create jewellery and other products for both local and export markets including the UK (Oxfam). There is a shop selling their products, a restaurant, and cultural centre. The cultural centre shows 8 traditional tribe’s homes - Masai, Giriama, Luo, to name a few and you can wander around these traditional homes and even meet a witch doctor. The shop sells leather goods, jewellery, carvings, batiks, soapstone, bags all at fixed price with proceeds going back to the people. The opening hours are Monday to Saturday 8.00 - 6.00 (not open on Sundays. Entrance to the cultural centre is 100 shillings for adults and 50 shillings for children.
