Teatralny Square or Theatre Square is the cultural centre of Warsaw and can be found close to the Old Town and Krakowskie Przedmieście Street. The Square has always been a prominent area of Warsaw mainly because of the palatial style buildings and because of its central location. In the beginning of the 19th century the administrative capital moved to Teatralny Square after the old Town Hall was abandoned and the 18th century Pałac Jabłonowskich, which stood in the square, was bought by the authorities. The palace became the administrative centre for the municipal authorities until it was destroyed by fire. It was then rebuilt and used as a banking centre. In the 19th century the square was dominated by the National Theatre and still is. Across the road is Pałac Jabłonowskich and the Church of the Saints Brother Albert and the Apostle. Further down on the same side of the street is Pałac Blanka, which now belongs to the municipal authorities and is the main building for the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. One of the main Metro stations in the city, Ratusz Arsenal, is within walking distance of Plac Bankowy and there are strategic bus/tram stops in the square also.
Theatre Square is a top attraction in Warsaw, known for its unique features that attract numerous visitors each year.
