DDR-Museum (Berlin, Germany)

The DDR museum is a private museum in Berlin situated right on the river Spree, right opposite the Berlin Cathedral. The museum is dedicated to the everyday life of the citizens of the former socialist republic and displays a collection of over 150,000 artefacts from this period. The exhibition is interactive and offers visitors the opportunity to experience the everyday life in the former East Germany. Visitors are welcome to discover some of the objects in the collection by opening doors, drawers and closets, to touch and feel every exhibit. They can take a seat in an authentic Trabi car or visit a typical GDR apartment and watch TV in the living room. Each of the objects on display is provided with detailed information. This interactive museum was nominated for the European Museum Award for Year 2008. DDR Museum is open from Monday till Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00 and on Saturday from 10:00 to 22:00. Information about entry fees can be found on the official website of the museum.
