A large statue of Shiva sits on a concrete platform that juts out into the river Ganges and worshippers gather on the river bank to sing and pray and carry out rituals including floating candles and flower baskets down the river and passing around burning candelabra. Entrance is free of charge and visitors and tourists are welcomed, whether they understand or not. The ceremony starts about half an hour before sunset and continues for approximately 90 minutes.
