Mansa Devi Temple is one of a series of five holy places that make up the Panch Tirth pilgrimage circuit in Haridwar which is in turn one of the seven holy cities of Hinduism. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Mansa and sits on top of a hill called Bilwa Parvat. It can be reached by walking up a steep road or (more typically) by using the cable car service. The temple is believed to help bring true the wishes of those that visit it. In order to make a wish they tie a ribbon around a tree in the centre of the temple, returning afterwards to untie another ribbon if the wish comes true. For those less religiously inclined, the area around the temple and the road back down to the city offer great views over Haridwar and the river Ganges. Entrance to the temple is free but the cable car carries a charge. Tickets can be bought to combine the Mansa Devi temple and a second temple on the other side of the river with a bus service provided in between.
