Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (Hyderabad, India)

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is Hyderabad’s ‘new’ airport and has replaced the older but more central ‘Begumpet’ airport. The airport is named after the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and opened in March 2008. Located approximately 23 km from the city centre, RGIA is connected to the city by an airport shuttle running at 30 minute intervals except between 23.30 and 3.30 when departures are only hourly. The airport was commissioned before much of the necessary infrastructure had been completed and construction is still underway to create airport hotels (there’s currently just one - 2009), 4-lane highways, a Metro extension and a high-speed rail-link. Visitors would be advised to check the airport website for updates before visiting. The airport has 42 stands and 12 air-bridges and provides services to national and international carriers including British Airways, Emirates and Lufthansa.
