Rizal Park (Manila, Philippines)
Rizal Park was originally known as Bagumbayan or Luneta. It is the largest urban open space in Manila and is located at the very heart of Manila City. The official name is in memory of a Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal who was killed by the firing squad (on the same site) during the Spanish colonisation in December 1896. Attractions within the park include the National Museum, National Library, Chinese and Japanese Gardens, Planetarium, Orchidarium and the Lapu-Lapu monument. The park is also home to the main office of the Department of Tourism and there are fountains, statues, picnic areas, a grandstand and a stone model of the 7,107 islands that comprise the Philippines. The gardens and other attractions have admission/entrance fees.
